My Situation Now

pamphlet

I will be leaving my current company at the end of June next year.

Around this time next year, I’m going to volunteer overseas.

I had been vaguely thinking about doing a different job in my 40s, when the second half of my career begins. My current job is a domestic bureaucratic job, so I thought that my next job would be a job where I could interact with people overseas. In particular, my country's economic power has been steadily declining recently, and I wanted to be able to earn foreign currency, so I thought about working overseas.

However, my English skills are quite low, and my TOEIC score was around 400 points. I also found out that I needed connections with companies to obtain a working visa in a developed country. When it comes to learning English and looking for a job, it's so far in the future that I can't even imagine when I'll be able to start working.

At that time, I found an overseas volunteer dispatch program. This program is run by a government agency, and the government provides travel expenses to the dispatch destination and living expenses there, and also provides language training for the dispatch. It seemed like a great program that was free and would allow me to make connections overseas.

I applied for an overseas volunteer dispatch program in July of this year and was accepted in October. I will receive pre-dispatch language training from September of next year, and travel to my dispatch country in December.

For that reason, I will be retiring from the company I have worked for for over 10 years, and taking the next step towards my career at the end of next year.

Web app - 072/100 -

Today, I built an app that provides me with flashcards. I can use it on Google Chrome on my iPhone. I wrote the code with the help of ChatGPT.  I just explained the functionality I wanted, and it generated the code for me. It also guided me on how to use GitHub, Google Cloud, and so on. To be honest, I had no prior experience in coding or web development, but I still managed to build it. I believe this app will help improve my English learning.

Dark personality - 095/100 -

I have finished reading the book, What Does It Mean to Have a ‘Bad Personality?’ .  I was particularly interested in the section about ‘grit’, although it is not the main theme of this book. Grit is a personality trait that involves perseverance and determination. It is said that grit has a more positive effect on our achievements than IQ.  Additionally, the book argues that self-esteem is not a precursor to achievement; rather, it is built through accomplishment.  These two insights resonate with me deeply. What Does It Mean to Have a ‘Bad Personality?’

Reason for applying

I want to find a career for the next 10 years while I'm in my 40s, retire early by 60, and spend the rest of my life enjoying my hobby of traveling. I would like my next career to be one that earns foreign currency (dollars). Japan's national power has been declining recently, and earning yen in Japan is inefficient and risky. However, I need to improve my English skills. My TOEIC score was around 400. In addition, it would be preferable to be self-employed. One of my children has a developmental disorder. Considering his future, leaving a business where we can work together would be a risk hedge. In order to be self-employed overseas, I must improve my English skills above all else. Next, I will find connections and work in the country where I will be working (Australia is the most likely candidate), and eventually become independent. How do I learn English? I thought that I would not be able to acquire a working level of English by attending an English school, as is the commo...
